Featuring an unprecedented lineup of today’s top drummers, including Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live), Stanton Moore (Stanton Moore Trio, Galactic), Benny Greb (extraordinary European drummer/educator), Chris Pennie (Coheed & Cambria), Shannon Forrest (Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, Nashville sessions), and Adam Deitch (John Scofield, Wyclef Jean), as well as other artists to be announced, the 20th edition of the world-renowned Modern Drummer Festival™ will be held on May 22, 2010, in the Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey-just outside New York City. The 2010 MD Festival will combine the traditions that have made the Modern Drummer Festival one of the world’s longest running and most successful drumming events with new features that are sure to raise its reputation and prestige to new heights.
The highly anticipated, entertaining, and educational Festival’s return to Montclair State University, site of history-making Modern Drummer Festivals from 1987 to 2003, will be condensed from two days to one but expanded to include master-class sessions in the morning in addition to the series of afternoon educational performances. These and other improvements to be announced in the coming months will provide increased benefits for Festival attendees and participants.
Previous Modern Drummer Festivals have been generously supported by the drum industry’s leading manufacturers and have included the most spectacular drummers and percussionists on the planet, with sold-out crowds and highly popular videos. Es el segundo disco de Weckl como solista. No hay mucho para hablar de él. Soy un fanático de Weckl y creo que tiene un estilo, calidad y sutileza únicos.
Tocó con Madonna y con Corea, hace jazz, jazz latino, pop… lo que se le pida, y lo hace perfecto. El último tema es TOTALMENTE ejecutado por él. Se llama “Trigger Happy” y hace todos los sonidos que se escuchan en tiempo real, SIN sobregrabaciones.
En otras palabras, está tocando lo que se escucha en ESE momento. Lo de TRIGGER es porque así se le llama a los pequeños micrófonos de contacto que se adhieren a los parches y que captan el golpe y transmiten esa señal a un equipo MIDI, o sequencer, que reproduce esa nota pero con
el sonido que se le programe. Es así que un golpe de parche suene como una trompeta, guitarra, bajo y hasta voces.
