John Riley is a renowned player, teach and author. He has performed with a virtual Who's Who's in the Jazz music field: Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Stan Getz, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Joe Lovano, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and many others. A multiple GRAMMY winning recording artist, John has appeared on hundreds of record dates and on numerous Television and film productions. John has a BM from the University of North Texas and an MM from the Manhattan School of Music. He is on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music and SUNY-Purchase and has written three critically acclaimed books about jazz drumming - "The Art of Bop Drumming," "Beyond Bop Drumming" and "The Jazz Drummer's Workshop" and is a winner of the 2004 and 2005 Modern Drummer Magazine Reader's Poll. John's DVD "The Master Drummer" was released in 2009.
The Master Drummer is based on over 40 years of observing and studying the master players. Throughout this DVD, renowned player, author, and teacher John Riley defines and explores the four key musical components drummers must develop in order to play at the highest level.
